Former football star O.J. Simpson admits he avoids visiting Los Angeles, and it’s not for the reason you think.
In a recent interview with Tim Graham for The Athletic, Simpson claimed that he avoids the city because he might run into whoever killed ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
“I have trouble with L.A.,” the disgraced former running back said. “People may think this is self-serving, but I might be sitting next to whoever did it. I really don’t know who did this.”
The publication ran the controversial feature as part of its 100 top players in NFL history series. Simpson was ranked number 41 on the list.
Simpson was acquitted in a 1995 criminal court for the murders. In a subsequent civil trial, he was found responsible for the deaths of Simpson Brown and Goldman. He still owes the families millions.
During the interview, Simpson said he has an idea of who the killer might be, or at least someone that was involved. But he won’t say who while continuing to maintain his own innocence.
“I figured eventually somebody would confess to something, you know?” Simpson said. “I had one suspect I told my lawyers to look at. I still think he might be involved, but I can’t talk about it.”
Despite being an accused murderer, Simpson says he is living the good life out in Vegas.
“How many Americans, even today, wouldn’t like to live my life?” he said. “I don’t work. I play golf four or five days a week. I go out to dinner a couple of nights with friends. People want to buy me drinks. I’m always taking pictures with people.”
O.J. Simpson "prayed for fame" — no matter the cost.
For the first time in 12 years, he speaks on the record about the arc of his complicated legacy.
