In the upcoming Showtime anthology series “The First Lady,” O-T Fagbenle has been cast as President Barack Obama, in a recurring role.
Fagbenle will be starring alongside Viola Davis, who’s going to be playing First Lady Michelle Obama. The show is characterized as a re-framing of American leadership, told at the heart of the White House through the lens of women. Michelle Pfeiffer as Betty Ford, Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt, and Aaron Eckhart as President Gerald Ford will all star in the first season.
Obama served as the United States’ first African American and 44th president from 2009 to 2017. Barack, a member of the Democratic Party, married Michelle Robinson in 1992 before becoming a senator for the state of Illinois in 2005.
Most recently, Fagenle starred as Luke Bankole in The Handmaid’s Tale, the critically acclaimed Hulu film. He will be seen in the Marvel movie “Black Widow” opposite Scarlett Johansson. He has a long television background, and he created, wrote, directed, composed, executive produced and starred in the original series “Maxxx” for Channel 4 and Hulu in April 2020. “The Five,” “The Interceptor,” “Looking,” “As If,” and “Doctor Who” are among his other credits.
