Paul Mooney’s hometown of Oakland, California is trying to figure out how to honor the comedic legend.
According to TMZ, the comedian’s passing has created some urgency on the part of the Oakland City Council, who had already been mulling over the idea of paying tribute to Mooney even before he death.
Several Oakland officials confirmed to TMZ that the topic is already on the agenda for the City Council meeting on June 1st.
The council members claim ideas for honoring Paul’s life include an annual or regularly scheduled comedy event to spotlight up-and-coming comedians in Oakland, the creation of a statue or a plaque with his face that would be displayed somewhere in the Black Arts District, or a college scholarship fund in his name.
