If you’re one of the thousands of eager people heading to Austin this month for SXSW (South by Southwest), you’ll be thrilled to find out that the Obamas will also be in attendance.
President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will both make an appearance at the SXSW Interactive Conference which embraces music, technology and film.
On March 11th the president is expected to sit down with Evan Smith, editor of the Texas Tribune, regarding civic engagement and the role technology can potentially play with increasing political involvement and solving global issues. On March 16th, our First Lady Michelle Obama will discuss her Let Girls Learn initiative, which helps 62 million girls around the world who are not in school gain access to an education.
The Obamas are the first presidential family to attend SXSW in its thirty years. It makes sense considering a lot of the campaigns in the White House have been notable for their embrace of technology under the Obama administration.
One senior White House official recalls, “In 2012, when the president was running for reelection, there were fewer than 1 billion smartphones in the world,” adding “This year on a daily basis 1 billion people go to their Facebook page on their smartphone every day… That’s in four years”
Voters are embracing technology just like the president, which makes their attendance to SXSW completely called for and exciting !!
