New York Giants owner, John Mara, wants Odell Beckham Jr. to “do a little more playing and a little less talking.”
But, Odell’s father, Odell Beckham Sr., wasn’t going to let his son be publicly embarrassed without standing up for his child.
In an Instagram post, Beckham Sr. returned the favor, posting a video of Mara upset and throwing a chair inside a luxury box inside Met Life Stadium.
“REALLY!?” Beckham Sr. wrote, “#imafather1st-Repost from @obj.news – Is that owner Mara picking up a chair and throwing it!! Oh my my the tree is acting like the Apple!!! #odellbeckhamjr #nygiants @nygiants_pics_news yet the commentator is talking about Odell.. wow!! Listen this is not the White House, we have comprehending cellular activity don’t even try it! He’s mad at how Odell is acting sooo HE DOES THE SAME??! You couldn’t make this up if you tried!!”
Mara attended the NFL Fall meeting Tuesday, where he publicly criticized Beckham Jr. for a recent ESPN interview in which he questioned the intensity of the Giants, and refused to answer about the play of quarterback Eli Manning.
“I wish he would create the headlines by his play on the field as opposed to what he says and what he does off the field,” Mara said. “I think he needs to do a little more playing and a little less talking.”
Friday, Beckham Jr. was asked to respond to reporters about his boss’ comments.
“I respect and value his opinion,” Beckham Jr. said. “That’s what we’re gonna do: focus on Atlanta right now. That’s really it. I’m ready to talk about the Atlanta Falcons and that’s really it. That’s the focus right now. We need to start winning games. I feel that. I want to win, too, just as bad as anybody else. That’s really it, I just wanna win.”
The 1-5 Giants will travel to Atlanta on Monday to take on the Falcons.
