A police officer in Orangeburg, South Carolina, has been fired and arrested after he stomped on the head of a man who was already down on his hands and knees, causing the 58-year-old man’s head to slam into the concrete.
Orangeburg Department of Public Safety Officer David Lance Dukes was terminated and charged with first-degree assault and battery in the July 26 attack.
Dukes was fired after Orangeburg Public Safety officials reviewed the incident captured on the officer’s body cam.
The 38-year-old, now-former officer, ordered the man who walks with the use of a stick down on the ground.
According to the victim’s attorney Justin Bamberg, a previous injury left the man with pins and rods in his leg, which caused him to move slowly and carefully as he got down on the ground.
The victim suffered a bruise to his forehead and was taken to the hospital. Bamberg said he hopes the city will release the complete footage from the incident.
