An Overland Park police officer has been let go after making threatening comments on Facebook in regards to a young child.
Lanaydra Williams, of Dallas Texas, posted pictures of her 5-year-old daughter to her Facebook account back in October 2014. Thursday, multiple years later, Williams received a random notification on that very picture from a man located nearly eight hours away.
“We’ll see how much her life matters soon..better be careful leaving your info open where she can be found 🙂 hold her close tonight, it’ll be the last time,” the comment read.
Williams clicked on the man’s profile and saw that he was actually a police officer. “I saw that he was a cop and I was like, ‘This is outrageous. This is not acceptable at all,'” she said. “I was upset because this is my child, If it had been me, it would have been different but this is my child.”
After the post was reported by Williams, the OP Police Department launched an investigation, leading them to find out that the post was indeed made by one of their officers. The officer, identified as Rod Wilson (Rodney Lee on Facebook) was then terminated.
According to Williams, situations like these only further display the heightened level of racism between officers and people of color. She hopes that her situation can shed light on the matter.
