Officer William Porter Ordered To Testify Against Colleagues In Freddie Gray Trial

Officer William Porter has been ordered by a Baltimore judge to testify against his colleagues in two upcoming trials regarding the death of Freddie Gray. Porter has also been charged.

If you recall, Porter was charged with involuntary manslaughter, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct stemming from the death of Freddie Gray. Last month, a judge declared a mistrial in Porter’s case. A retrial has been scheduled for June, however Judge Barry Williams has ordered Porter to testify against Officer Caesar Goodson Jr., who was driving the police van, and Sgt. Alicia White, according to CNN.

While under the terms of the order, prosecutors are not allowed to use any information disclosed against Porter in his June retrial. Unfortunately, the ramifications can have a negative impact on Porter in the long run.

“No one wants to be in the position of being made by the government to give information that might impact negatively on themselves. It might open some doors here that might severely impact the right of people to get a fair trial in multi-defendant cases,” said defense attorney Warren Brown to the Baltimore Sun.

Seems Porter is in a very compromising position.
