Offset says channeling his inner Michael Jackson is all a part of his efforts to be an all-around performer.
While in the Migos group, Offset certainly showed off some of his dance moves occasionally. However, in his solo endeavors, Set has spent much of his time focused on his stage presence and becoming more than a rapper. Instead, he would like to be known as an all-around creative, as he shared with GQ.
“I’m trying to take it all the way there and just show people that I’m an all-around star instead of just a rap star. That’s why I’m shooting my own videos. I’m doing my own merch designs, dancing in videos, dancing onstage with choreo and with dancers because I just want to do something that separates me from everybody,” Offset explained.
The “Clout” star said he expressed his plans to elevate his artistry during a chat with Tyler, the Creator, who is known for going outside the box with his projects. According to Offset, Tyler encouraged him to go for it despite some fans not immediately understanding his shift.
“He was like, ‘You should do it, too. N****s ain’t going to f**k with it at first, but n****a never f**k with the good s**t first. They always sleep on it, and then you show them throughout the process.’ I really took that s**t to head,” he added.
Last month, during an interview with Hot 97, Offset also expressed his desire to separate himself from the industry, hinting that concerts are getting boring because people aren’t wanting to see artists “walk back and forth on stage.”
