Will Smith has had social media in an uproar these past few days. Everyone from celebrities to influencers has shared their thoughts about the shocking incident during the Oscars.
Now, Janet Hubert has stepped up to defend Smith’s actions on social media, standing with her friend and former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star.
“I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to slap the mess out of so many folks who have disrespected me,” Hubert tweeted. “Will stood up for his wife. Chris Rock is always disrespecting Black women. Mean-spirited hides behind comedy.BULL.”
The former OG Aunt Viv actress took it a step further and posted that she was proud of Will, “So PROUD OF YOU! Yes, there is only so much one can take…sometimes you have to slap back,” she wrote in the caption. “Celebrate the win…nothing else matters. Both actions were incorrect, but Chris didn’t need to go there. Met him once… it was enough for me…very mean spirited. #kingrichardfirthewin.”
Since then, Will has apologized to the Academy and Chris Rock via Instagram.
“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris,” Smith wrote. “I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
Monday, Hubert took to her Instagram to follow up with her comments, letting fans know to stop coming for her and even named the people she’s wanted to smack, including Kevin Fraiser, Wendy (Williams), Michael Yo, Tameron Hall, among others.
