Last year, José and Scierra Ervin went viral for their interesting love story. On August 18th, Scierra gave birth to a set of twins, A’Ria and José Ervin III. But what made the moment even more special was that Scierra and José were also born on August 18th. At the time, José called the birth of his babies the “best birthday present ever.” Sadly, the family was recently hit with a nightmare just weeks after celebrating their first big birthday together.
On October 4th, José was unexpectedly shot and killed in Garfield, Ohio, in the early hours of the day. According to José’s sister, Chloe Ervin-Dozier, the 32-year-old man spent his last night with his best friend, visiting a local bar and stopping by a gas station. Surveillance footage showed José approaching a group of people to ask for a cigarette. Unfortunately, the seemingly harmless request quickly turned into a deadly moment.
Remember this couple who went viral for having the same birth date as each other, then gave birth to twins who also shared the same birthday? He was Unalived outside a Dunkin Donuts in Ohio.💔 His name is Jose Ervin Jr. 🕊️

Chloe recalled watching the video and seeing her brother back away from a man who pulled out a gun. Even though José attempted to de-escalate the situation, he was unsuccessful and was ultimately chased down and shot near a Dunkin’ Donuts. The father was later transported to Marymount Hospital, where he passed away at 3:34 am.
“He chased my brother down like he was prey,” Chloe’ stated to PEOPLE.
As the case remains unresolved and the investigation continues, José’s family is left picking up the pieces of their lives. Particularly for Scierra, who is left raising a set of twins while awaiting the birth of their third child. As of now, the future is uncertain, but the family and community are continuing to support Scierra and her children during this time.
“José was loved by everyone,” Chloe’ says. “We just want justice for him.”
A GoFundMe for the funeral services has raised over $14,000.
