An Ohio father is accused of intentionally leaving his 1-year-old son in a hot car for over five hours.
New Philadelphia Police Chief Michael Goodwin says the small child was unresponsive when he was brought to the emergency room by his father, 19-year-old Landon Parrot.
“During the initial investigation, the Detectives found inconsistent information being given by the father,” Chief Goodwin wrote on the police department’s Facebook page.
Police confronted the father on his conflicting stories, and that’s when he allegedly came clean.
“The child passed away after being left in the car unattended for approximately 5 hours, with an outside temperature of 87 degrees,” according to Goodwin. “During the interview, it appears that this was not a matter of forgetting the child but was a deliberate act so the child would not be a disturbance while in the house.”
The father was booked on Friday and faces charges of murder, two counts of endangering children, and involuntary manslaughter, police confirmed on the post.
He’s being held at the Tuscarawas County Jail on a $250,000 bond, CNN reported.
