Ohio Lawmakers Introduce Tougher Texas-Style Abortion Ban

Republican lawmakers in Ohio want to introduce an abortion ban similar to the one recently passed in Texas.

House Bill 480 would allow anyone to sue a doctor that performed an abortion or an individual who “aids or abets” the procedure.

The bill’s definition of abortion includes banning the administering, procuring, or selling of any instrument, medicine, or drug used to terminate a pregnancy.

The controversial bill will allow anyone who performs or assists in an about to face a fine of at least $10,000.

The Ohio bill goes one step beyond the Texas bill by banning all abortions regardless of whether a heartbeat is detected.

The Texas ban only goes after abortions that are conducted after a fetal heartbeat is detected.
