An Ohio man was so bothered by an upcoming drag show that he took it upon himself to stop it. But luckily, his ill-hearted attempt failed.
Aimenn Penny, 20, admitted to federal authorities that he wanted to burn down the Community Church of Chesterland and used a Molotov cocktail to do so on March 25, which was two days before two scheduled drag show events were to take place.
Penny is accused of tossing the explosives at the church. However, the homemade bombs caused minimal damage, the New York Post reported. No one was inside the church at the time of the incident.
Penny is part of a “White Lives Matter” group and said he did it because he wanted to burn down the church to “protect children and stop the drag show event.”
He also said he regretted his plan didn’t work.
“Penny stated that he would have felt better if the Molotov cocktails were more effective and burned the entire church to the ground,” an agent with the FBI wrote in the affidavit.
Federal authorities presented images of the botched Molotov cocktail explosion allegedly caused by Penny.
He faces one count of using fire to commit a federal felony, one count of malicious use of explosive materials, and one count of possessing a destructive device, the US Attorney’s Office said.
