This is new! An Ohio restaurant has decided what to do with the Brood X Cicadas swarming around. It is testing it out on its Spicy Thai Cicada Pie.
According to CNN, The Pizza Bandit located in Dayton has actually put the cicadas on the pizza.
However, the restaurant is not selling cicada-topped pizza to its customers. In a Facebook post that shows their creation, the business informed readers, “We’re not even sure if we can legally sell you locally foraged Cicadas.”
There was a tasting panel that tried the pizza out. The live stream of the tasting also included other ingredients such as miso hoisin sriracha sauce, mozzarella, provolone, mushrooms, cabbage, green onion, mango, cilantro, and a spicy Thai sauce.
“Opinions of the pizza range from absolutely delicious to…well…uh…yeah…,” the Facebook post said.
Cicadas aren’t toxic, but the US Food and Drug Administration still warned people not to eat them if they are allergic to seafood since they share a family relation to shrimp and lobsters.
