An Ohio woman receives three years in prison after being arrested for padlocking a 7-year-old girl in a dog cage, in her basement, as a form of punishment, People states.
On Monday, Lillian Cottrell, 39, was given three years behind bars after pleading guilty to child endangerment.
Cottrell confessed to abusing the girl over seven months in 2020. When authorities removed the young child from home, she weighed 28lbs.
According to the Canton Repository, authorities also took other children and a dog from the house. However, there was no evidence that they received any mistreatment.
The young girl is now with a family member.
Cottrell’s boyfriend, Derek Mayle, 30, who also resided in the home, is scheduled to go to trial in March. He will face the same charges as Cottrell after he was arrested for abusing the girl as well.
