Former O’Jays singer and R&B legend Eddie Levert is grieving the loss of his youngest child, Ryan Levert, who passed away at just 22.
Carlysia Levert, daughter of Eddie’s late son Gerald, confirmed the heartbreaking news via Instagram, sharing photos of Ryan and writing, “Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers for my family. Please send extra love up for my papa and nana.”
She also reposted a tribute from The RNB Talk Show, noting Ryan’s battle with lupus. In her social media media profile, Ryan also had listed in the bio, “Lupus fighter.” The young woman was part of “The Levert Opinion” podcast alongside Eddie and LeMicah, Gerald’s son.
Eddie has faced profound loss over the years. His son Gerald, an R&B star, died suddenly in 2006 at 40, and his younger son, Sean, passed in 2008 at 39. Reflecting in 2011, Eddie shared, “I wish I could tell you that I had a sense of why, but I don’t. I still wonder: Was it something I did? … I’ve made so many changes to be a better father, husband, and friend.”
Despite the pain, Eddie added at that time, “I can’t dwell on it. It becomes very emotional for me. I really miss them. But it happened, and there was nothing I could do about it.”
Eddie nor his wife Raquel Capelton, have spoken out about this most recent tragedy.
