An Oklahoma man has been arrested after a 12-year-old arrived at a hospital nine months pregnant.
On July 14, a 24-year-old man named Juan Miranda-Jara walked into Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa with a child reportedly on the brink of labor.
Medical officials contacted the police telling them they had a rape victim. Miranda-Jara, who confirmed he was the child’s father to medical workers, was reportedly confused by the medical staff’s concern.
“They walked in just like any other couple would excited to deliver their newborn child,” Tulsa Police Officer Danny Bean told FOX23, Fox News reports.
Right now, police are wanting to know how the adolescent got pregnant, who knew about her pregnancy, and why authorities were never contacted about it.
“We know there are many people in the community who are shocked by this, grossed out by this, disturbed by this, have questions, a whole range of emotions,” he said. “But in time, we will be able to give the community the answers they want. We just don’t have all the answers right now to give them, and we don’t want to compromise the investigation that’s still happening and really just now getting started.”
Miranda-Jara has been charged with first-degree rape for allegedly impregnating the girl. He is being held on a $50,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on August 26.
