Get ready for another wild ride—TriStar is bringing back One of Them Days, and yes, Keke Palmer and SZA are both expected to return.
The first film surprised everyone when it dropped in January, pulling in $11.8 million during its opening weekend and going on to make a strong $50 million at the domestic box office. Not bad for a $14 million budget.
The buddy comedy follows Dreux and Alyssa, two best friends who go all out after Alyssa’s boyfriend blows their rent money. What follows is a hilarious race to avoid eviction and save their friendship. Critics loved it (94% on Rotten Tomatoes) and audiences did too (90%).
Behind the scenes, the same creative team is also expected to return, including director Lawrence Lamont and writer Syreeta Singleton. TriStar is keeping things tight and successful, using their tried-and-true formula of delivering high-profit, low-budget films that connect with female audiences.
Sony, TriStar’s parent company, has been winning lately with similar hits like It Ends With Us and Anyone But You, both of which raked in big numbers globally.
While there’s no release date yet, the success of the first film and the return of its breakout stars make this sequel one to watch. Stay tuned—Keke and SZA might be gearing up for another unforgettable hustle.
