Onijah Robinson, the 33-year-old woman who went viral earlier this year for flying to Pakistan to meet and allegedly marry a 19-year-old man she met online, is clearing the air about her mental health and setting the record straight on her unexpected rise to fame.
In a new interview with Hot 97’s TT Torrez, Robinson addressed widespread reports that she was placed under psychiatric care during her time overseas. The Brooklyn native insists that was never the case.
“I was just in the hospital because I was anemic and I was getting blood,” she said. “When y’all see me taking pictures, I was in the hospital in Pakistan.”
She also shut down claims allegedly made by her son, Jeremiah Robinson, that she suffers from bipolar disorder.
“I don’t have no mental health issues. I have asthma. That’s it,” she said, while confirming that Jeremiah lives with her in the Bronx and that she also has a 10-year-old son who lives with his father. “They both are well taken care of.”
Robinson’s whirlwind story began gaining traction earlier this year after she traveled to Pakistan to meet Nidal Ahmed Memon, a 20-year-old she says she met while starting an e-commerce business in 2023. She claims Memon was working at AT&T when he helped her order devices—and that the two quickly bonded.
“We spoke for maybe a month, and then we made it official,” she said. “A lot of FaceTiming, a lot of texting, a lot of time… After a year and a half, I finally took it serious.”
According to Robinson, the two were married through a U.S.-based online service called Weddings Online, claiming the union is legally recognized in Utah.
As for their 13-year age gap, Robinson said Memon was “just her type.”
“He’s just really mature, you know? The court accepted it, so why not?”
Now back in the States, Robinson says she’s embracing her viral fame and using it to launch new opportunities. She revealed she’s currently doing interviews and promotional appearances—and is even in talks to turn her story into a Lifetime movie.
“Before the fame, I was regular, but I always had that type of spark,” she said. “I’m getting to the bag, definitely for sure. I’m booked out, for real.”
As for Memon? Robinson says he’s still in Pakistan but plans to join her soon in the U.S.
“He wants to invest. He’s on his way… He is coming. Gotta get a visa, gotta get a passport. It’s real.”
