Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry are collaborating with Apple TV as co-producers for a new television show on mental health, launching in 2020.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This docu-series is set to be one of several shows under the mega-production deal between Apple and Winfrey, in which she produces original content to help Apple compete with other streaming platforms, such as Netflix.
According to an official statement from Kensington Palace, Winfrey and Harry have been developing the multi-part documentary for months and plan to use their platform to have an “honest” and “inspiring” conversation about mental health with the world.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kensington Palace added that prior to the production of the documentary, Prince Harry has been committed to removing the stigma surrounding mental health and has served as an “advocate” for those who “silently suffer.” He has also openly shared his personal experience with mental wellness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“I truly believe that good mental health – mental fitness – is the key to powerful leadership, productive communities, and a purpose-driven self. It is a huge responsibility to get this right as we bring you the facts, the science and the awareness of a subject that is so relevant during these times,” said Harry.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Our hope is that this series will be positive, enlightening and inclusive – sharing global stories of unparalleled human spirit fighting back from the darkest places, and the opportunity for us to understand ourselves and those around us better. I am incredibly proud to be working alongside Oprah on this vital series.”
In fact, Winfrey opened up about the series in an interview with Baller Alert, where she explained how she found her purpose through one of her biggest failures in life, demotion.
“I found it after I got demoted from my first job in Baltimore,” she said. “Getting demoted almost fired in Baltimore was the best thing that ever happened to me cause it gave me an opportunity to figure out that I shouldn’t have been doing news anyway, I should’ve been doing a talk show. Everybody has a purpose. It’s your number one job to figure out what that is. Mine is to be a sweet inspiration in the world.”
“I’m really excited about this thing I’m doing with Prince Harry now. Prince Harry and I are working together as executive producers of this new mental health, mental wellness, mental fitness series for Apple,” she said. “He’s my co-producer and creator.”
