In a recent interview with British Vogue, Oprah Winfrey, who is featured on the cover of the August 2018 issue, opened up about a slew of important topics that have dominated headlines, from race, feminism, her attendance at the Royal Wedding, and of course, her rumored run for president.
In the wake of Winfrey’s powerful #TimesUp speech at the 2018 Golden Globes, where she proclaimed, “a new day is on the horizon,” which in turn ignited talk of Oprah 2020, the talk show host extraordinaire set the record straight once and for all. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“In that political structure – all the non-truths, the bullshit, the crap, the nastiness, the backhanded backroom stuff that goes on – I feel like I could not exist,” she told Decca Aitkenhead during the interview. “I would not be able to do it. It’s not a clean business. It would kill me.”

As she continued, she addressed the #MeToo and #TimesUp movement and opened up about its uncovering of the horror stories of Hollywood, and the traumatic experiences some women endure.

“People talk about ‘these are such dark times’, but what if we shift the paradigm? Because I see it differently,” she said. “I see, ‘Isn’t this remarkable that we’re waking up? ‘ For years, women have endured craziness. This is what’s happening to people. They’re allowing themselves to not just become corroded, but to become hysterical. You’ve got to lean to happiness.”

Winfrey then went on to divulge about the Royal Wedding, where she nearly committed a major party foul by wearing a gown that “looked white” to a wedding.

“[I saw the Stella McCarney gown and it] looked white, not cream,” Winfrey said. “I Googled, ‘Can you wear white to a wedding?’ Answer: No, don’t risk it.”

Instead, the legendary host donned a pale pink Stella McCartney piece in her surprise appearance to the May 19th Royal union.
