On Tuesday morning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the 94th annual Academy Awards nominees.

The ceremony is set to air live from Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on March 27.

Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan announced the nominees together.

Will Smith and Denzel Washington both received a Best Actor nomination from the Academy Awards for Smith’s role in “King Richard” and Washington’s role in “The Tragedy of Macbeth.” This is the third nomination in the category for Smith, who previously received a nomination for “Ali” in 2002 and “Pursuit of Happyness” in 2007.

Smith and Washington are up against Javier Bardem for his role in “Being the Ricardo’s,” Benedict Cumberbatch for “The Power of the Dog,” and Andrew Garfield for his role in “Tick, Tick, Boom!”

Playing Richard William, the father of tennis prodigies Venus and Serena Williams, Smith was hailed for his performance. He won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Drama earlier this year.

King Richard is nominated for Best Motion Picture of the year and Original Screen Play. Pamela Martin is also nominated for Achievement in Film Editing in Kind Richard. Beyonce was also nominated for her contributions to King Richard’s soundtrack. Her song “Be Alive” was named in the Original Song category.

Questlove, the musician, and leader of The Roots received his first Oscar nomination as director of Summer of Soul (or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised), which was nominated for best documentary feature. Questlove is shown as Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson on the nominations list.

His co-nominees are Joseph Patel, Robert Fyrolent, and David Dinerstein. Summer of Soul is also Grammy-nominated for Best Music Film.

“The Power of the Dog” led among nominated films with 12 nods. The drama’s director, Jane Campion, made history by becoming the first woman nominated more than once for best director.

“West Side Story” earned seven nominees, which means Steven Speilberg has now produced 11 films nominated for best picture, a new record for the Oscars.
