Oscar Pistorius Sentenced To Five Years

After a judge ruled the murder of Oscar Pistorius’ girlfriend an accident, he has now been sentenced. Pistorius will serve 5 years in prison for killing his girlfriend on Valentines Day 2013. According to South African law he can ask for parole after only 10 months. On an unrelated note Pistorius was given a 3-year sentence on a firearms charge but it was suspended for 5 years so long as he’s not found guilty of another crime where there’s negligence involving a firearm during that period. I’m not sure if that means he can likely serve more jail time in 5 years, but it sounds that way.

Oscar Pistorius was driven to Pretoria Central Prison in an armored police van. According to NBC News, Pretoria Central Prison was used for thousands of apartheid-era hangings and now houses some of South Africa’s most hardened criminals. Doesn’t look like it’s going to be summer camp for Pistorius at all.
