Walmart’s Popular Water Bottle Leaves People Blind—You Won’t Believe Why

Walmart’s Popular Water Bottle

Walmart is pulling back nearly 850,000 Ozark Trail 64‑ounce stainless steel water bottles sold since 2017 after safety officials discovered a serious hazard: the screwcap lids can launch off with force when opened, potentially causing severe facial injury. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports three verified incidents in which the lids struck users in the face – two of those strikes resulted in permanent vision loss after the lid hit the eye.

These bottles, silver with black lids and the distinctive Ozark Trail logo, were available in Walmart stores nationwide. The issue arises when the bottle contains food or beverage and is left sealed for a time. When pressure builds, the lid may pop off almost like a cannon, and that sudden ejection is putting consumers at risk of serious harm.

With two confirmed cases of blindness, this isn’t a minor mishap. Anyone using one of these bottles should stop immediately, inspect their lids, and visit Walmart’s recall page for next steps.

What you need to do:
• Stop using the bottle right away
• Carefully relieve pressure before reopening—do not twist open blindly
• Check Walmart’s recall site for refund or replacement instructions

Walmart has not said how long the recall process will take, but with eye injuries involved, it’s best to treat this as urgent.

Stay safe, y’all—your hydration shouldn’t cost you your sight.
