Down in the valley, the girls are thriving and winning awards.

Starz series P-Valley walked away victorious with a vast feat last weekend at the NAACP Image Awards, winning Outstanding Drama Series

Baller Alert caught up with Brandee Evans, who plays Mercedes, on the yellow carpet and got her thoughts on the victory.

“It is overwhelming, and I’m so thankful because before this happened, I was told “We like her, but her name isn’t big enough, and we don’t know her,” she expressed.

“I’m grateful for Starz, Lionsgate, and Katori Hall for the opportunity to be known.”

When asked about the best part about playing her character in the series, the actress shared seeing her go through motherhood. She continues and says her role is therapy for her, revealing she had an unfortunate stillbirth with her daughter, whom she named Lyric.

“I had a daughter that passed away as it was a stillbirth,” she shared.

“The young actress, Azaria Carter, who plays my daughter in the series, is the same age my daughter would’ve been. It’s therapy for me, and it’s the best part about playing her, if I can be honest. I want to see more motherhood from Mercedes and her outside The Pynk.”

Another star from the series had a big night as Nicco Annan walked away victorious with the Outstanding Actor In A Drama Series award. Before he delivered his powerful speech at the ceremony, he stopped by the carpet with J. Alphonse Nicholson, who plays Lil Murda, to speak on where they would love to see the relationship between Lil Murda and Uncle Clifford go.

“I feel the characters are in a space where they can unpack with their lives and see where they move, the next steps,” Annan shared.

Nicholson chimed in, agreeing with Annan’s sentiments and hoping to represent for the culture as we wait for next season.
