A State Court judge has sided in Trump’s favor, ruling that election observers on Trump’s behalf go in to observe vote counting more closely.
Donald Trump and his campaign team have fought tooth and nail to stop counting votes in many battleground states; Pennsylvania is one. His team finally won something in their pathetic attempts to disrupt democracy.
A Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court judge overturned a lower court’s ruling allowing election observers to be “within six feet” of the vote-counting process. Before this ruling, Trump and his team alleged that the election officials were “hiding the ballot counting and processing from our Republican poll observers,” claiming they were forcing them to stand further away.
This is only one of Trump’s two suits filed in the state on Wednesday. His other case is a motion to intervene in a U.S. Supreme Court case, which pertains to the state’s mail-in voting deadline, Forbes reports.
Trump’s team is hailing the “important legal victory” but shouldn’t gloat too much since the court ruling can have little impact on the state due to the third-party observer’s non-existent influence on the individual mail-in ballots.
But it doesn’t seem like the counting will be paused for long; it’s only temporary, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports; in fact, it’s just suspended until officials can follow the court’s rule and move observers closer to the counting of votes. And according to Forbes, the counting is already back in motion.
Trump has filed similar suits in Michigan, and Clark County, Nevada, also challenging the court to allow GOP election observers to be more involved in overseeing the voting count process. But like the Pennsylvania suit, Michigan is also expected to have little impact—the state and its electoral votes have already been handed over to Joe Biden. As for Nevada, the case has been moved to the Supreme Court after a lower court found the claims lacked evidence.
Trump is doing whatever he can to save face, and although he has a narrow lead in the state of Pennsylvania, Joe Biden has been riding his back through Democratic-heavy mail-in votes, which remain to be counted. Predictors feel Biden will eventually take the lead.
