After next season expect to see the familiar face of Pam Oliver replaced by her colleague Erin Andrews as FOX Sport’s newest NFL Sideline reporter. Before I move forward let me just say I’m just happy that a woman still holds the position in such a male dominated arena.
Now, for those of you who don’t watch a lot of sports, you may remember Erin Andrews as the FOX broadcaster 50 Cent tried to kiss during the Daytona 500 prerace. You can find the video all over Youtube. It’s awkward yet hilarious.
Pam Oliver, who’s been broadcasting from NFL’s sideline for 20 seasons, will still be part of the FOX Sports team as she takes on other duties such as long-form pieces, specials, major interviews and some producing.
Pam was made aware of this decision back in April and says she still exhibits sadness after her departure. “Disappointment is not really a word I’d use right now because I’ve had some weeks to process it,” Oliver said. “I think my emotions during the season will be sadness because I had been around that group for a decade.” She added: “But you have to move forward and deal with what is on your plate. I went through a range of emotions, but as I speak with you today, disappointment has passed me and I have reached a point of trying to move forward with some sadness.”
“To go from the lead crew to no crew was a little shocking,” Oliver said. “I said I wanted to do a 20th year [on the sidelines]. I expressed to them that I was not done and had something to offer. Again, I think it was predetermined coming in. Not at that meeting, but two years ago it was determined that no matter what I did or did not do, a change would be made for this year.”
Reading her feelings about it is really sad. She’s put nearly 20 years into this one job so I can only imagine how she feels to be forced into something else. I wonder what made them replace her. Like I said before though, I’m just glad they replaced her with another woman and not a male.
