The Paris Olympics are finally here and several athletes will soon go head-to-head to represent their countries.
This year’s games offer top contenders across several categories. One of the most anticipated is in track and field. Runners Noah Lyles, representing Team USA and Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs against one another. Lyles carries six world titles and is currently the fastest man in the world after securing the 100 and 200 meters during 2023’s World Championships. However, Jacobs, having bypassed star runner Usain Bolt in the 2021 Tokyo Olympic 100-meter race, is looking to change that.
USA’s Simone Biles and Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade are also predicted to leave audiences on edge in the gymnastics category. Andrade is expected to be Biles’ biggest challenger as they face off in Andrade, and Biles will face off in the all-around, vault, and floor finals. Andrade put herself on the map in Brazil after achieving two medals at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games. Biles’ accolades include four golds and a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Games before taking home a silver and bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Team USA’s star Sha’Carri Richardson will make her long-awaited Olympic debut three years after being banned from the Tokyo Games after testing positive for weed. Since then, Richardson has redeemed herself on the track several times, winning a gold medal during last year’s World Athletics Championships. Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the most awarded 100m sprinter on the planet, is expected to be Richardson’s most prominent opponent.
Swimming will feature a thrilling competition between USA’s Caeleb Dressel and Australia’s Kyle Chalmers. Dressel made a name for himself when he won his first individual Olympic gold medal in the men’s 100m freestyle in 2021, beating Chalmers by 0.06 seconds.
