Nikloas Cruz the domestic terrorist who murdered 17 people at Marjory Stoneman High School has confessed his crimes to police and says “evil voices” told him to kill people.
Cruz, 19, has been charged with 17 counts of murder and 17 counts of attempted murder in the Valentine’s Day assault on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Court documents show Cruz admitted to police that he was the shooter; prosecutors are looking to sentence Cruz to death. However, Cruz’s attorney wants to make a guilty plea deal to sentence Cruz to life in prison in exchange for the death penalty.
After Cruz was arrested the day of the shooting, the former student had a recorded conversation with an officer where he talked about his late parents and how a demon was instructing him to “burn, kill, and destroy.” The Broward County state attorney’s office released the transcript on Monday. The interview started with the officer asking Cruz if he wanted water. Cruz answered, “I don’t know.” When the detective asked why he didn’t know Cruz told him, “I don’t deserve it.”

Afterward, the detective read Cruz his rights and Cruz agreed to continue the on-camera interview. The detective left the interview room several times and when he did Cruz was caught on tape talking to himself. In the video you can hear him saying, “Kill me. Just kill me. Another time. I want to die. At the end you’re nothing but worthless dude. You deserve to die because you’re worthless and you everyone. I want to die.”

The interview continued with Cruz telling the detective the “demon” told him to buy an AR-15 and kill students at the high school and that during the interrogation the voice told him to kill himself. Cruz said in order to make the voice go away he would often smoke marijuana and take Xanax. When the detective challenged Cruz on whether the voices were actually real, Cruz asked to end the interview and requested his lawyer. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty regardless of his attorney’s deal.
