Atlanta legend and Dem Franchise Boyz member Parlae made his return to The Baller Alert Show, giving fans a deep dive into Atlanta’s music scene, his group’s impact on hip-hop, and his transition into podcasting.
The conversation started with Parlae breaking down the real geography of Atlanta, explaining the differences between East Atlanta, the Eastside, and Metro Atlanta—a topic that always sparks debate among ATL natives. He made it clear that many people claiming Atlanta aren’t actually from the city, noting, “If your address didn’t say Atlanta, Georgia—Southwest, East, West, Northwest—you ain’t from Atlanta.”
From there, Parlae reflected on his early days in Bankhead and how Dem Franchise Boyz came together organically. He revealed that the group initially wasn’t a traditional rap group but rather a collective of solo artists working together, similar to Wu-Tang Clan. He even dropped a gem about how their breakout hit “White Tee” came together and how their meteoric rise led to back-to-back No. 1 hits with “Oh I Think They Like Me (Remix)” and “Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It.”
Parlae on DJs and Breaking Records
One of the most heated discussions came when Parlae questioned whether DJs still break records in clubs. He argued that the old-school formula of DJs repeatedly spinning new records to program them into listeners’ heads doesn’t happen anymore, saying, “DJs used to play a record multiple times a night until people caught on. That’s not happening these days.”
His statement sparked debate, with the hosts noting that while some DJs still support new artists, the landscape has changed due to streaming, social media, and TikTok influencing what becomes a hit. Parlae doubled down, saying, “Atlanta hasn’t had a charting new artist in two years. That’s a problem.”
Transitioning to Podcasting & Giving Game
These days, Parlae is focused on giving game to the next generation through his podcast, OG Talk, where he drops knowledge on the industry, the streets, and life lessons. He explained that his goal is to educate young artists and entrepreneurs because the game isn’t being passed down the way it used to be.
Parlae also gave shoutouts to his family, including his son, who he revealed is one of the fastest young athletes in Georgia history. He hinted that fans should stay tuned because his son’s football career is about to take off.
