The New York Knicks were victorious in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals last night, defeating the Indiana Pacers 111–94. The duo of Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson became the first pair since Shaq and Kobe to both score 20 or more points in their first Conference Finals games.
Brunson’s 32 points were a game-high, and Towns’s 24-point double-double was thoroughly effective throughout the game.
Pacers forward and NBA champion Pascal Siakam is hoping to make his second Finals appearance but finished with a series-low 15 points in a game where the Knicks were clearly motivated to keep their season alive. After the game, Siakam was asked by Indianapolis Star columnist Gregg Doyel about the team’s intensity.
The line of questioning led to an awkward back-and-forth during the media session.
“It’s okay; we played hard, and they played harder,” Siakam said. When Doyel pressed further, asking why the Knicks played harder, Siakam seemed confused by the direction of the questioning.
“What’s your point? I don’t get it. Are you good, bro? You’re looking for something, I know — but damn.”
