Late last week it was announced that Chris Bosh was not medically cleared to return to the court for the 2016/2017 NBA season with the Miami Heat. Now it has been confirmed by Heat president Pat Riley that they are not optimistic for Bosh’s return.

“I think Chris is still open-minded. But we are not working toward his return. We feel that, based on the last exam, that his Heat career is probably over,” said Riley in his office at AmericanAirlines Arena on Monday.

When asked if Bosh’s NBA career is over as well, Riley simply answered, “That’s up to him.”

For much of the last two seasons, Bosh has been sidelined due to blood clots in his calf and a pulmonary embolism in his lungs. It’s likely that the Miami Heat see there is far too much of a health risk involved with putting him on the court prematurely.
