With Patti Pies selling like good dope in the ’80s, R&B legend Patti LaBelle is too far in her bag to be worried about dating these days.
The 77-year-old spoke with PEOPLE recently, where she said that she’s more interested in living her latter years “like it’s platinum” with her dog Mr. Cuddles and granddaughters, 6-year-old Gia and 4-year-old Leyla.
“Thank God I have a lot of people who care for me. I live alone with my dog, Mr. Cuddles, and I’m looking for love from everybody. I am,” said the “On My Own” icon.
Patti LaBelle married Armstead Edwards in 1969. Though the couple only had one son together, Zuri Edwards, they adopted her sister Jacqueline’s children, William and Stacey, following her death. They then adopted their deceased neighbors’ children, Stanley and Dodd. The couple raised the five children before separating in 2000 and finalizing their divorce in 2003. In 2016, Labelle was rumored to be dating her 41-year-old drummer, Eric Seats, though it appears that relationship didn’t last long.
Now, the vocalist is strictly focused on her family and cooking, which she is equally famous for. With the 20th-anniversary reissue of her first cookbook, LaBelle Cuisine, Miss Patti says that she has a recipe for everyone, even those who have diabetes like herself.
“So many people have come up to me and said that I saved some kind of meal for them because everything in my book, you follow that recipe, and you’ve got it down. It’s a lifesaver.”
Despite being a single woman, LaBelle says that she is “pretty blessed.”
“I’m still good. My mind is right. I wake up every morning and look in the mirror and say, ‘Girl, you’re wearing it well. You’re doing okay. Keep it up.'”
See, ladies, you don’t need a man to keep you happy.
