After being sidelined for eight months due to a horrific leg injury he suffered last summer, Indiana Pacers guard Paul George finally made his long awaited return to the NBA last night. In a playoff implication game against the Miami Heat, George made his season debut late in the first quarter, scoring on his first shot attempt. He played for a total of 15 minutes throughout all four quarters, scoring 13 points, including three 3-pointers, with two rebounds, two assists, and two steals, and helped his team to a 112-89 victory over the Heat. The Pacers, now tied with the Heat at the #9 spot in their conference, are one step closer to securing a playoff spot for the East.
Back in August 2014, George was playing for Team USA in the offseason. During a scrimmage, he landed hard on his lower right leg after a play and fractured two bones. He was originally predicted to miss the entire 2014-2015 season but he has been spending the last eight months recovering and working out in hopes of making it back to the court towards the end of the season.
The fans in Indianapolis were thrilled to see their star player return to Bankers Life Fieldhouse. When he came into the game, George received a standing ovation as the fans held signs that read ‘Welcome Back PG’. “Welcoming me back into the game was probably the greatest moment that I’ve had,” George said. “It was so hard to not get caught up in the moment.” George received a warm welcome from fans as well as from his fellow NBA players. LeBron James was one of many to congratulate George on his return, sending his friend a heartfelt message on Instagram.
Dwyane Wade, Chandler Parsons, Tobias Harris, Jamal Crawford, Jared Sullinger and more also congratulated him on his big day.
Welcome back Paul George!
