Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably seen the photos and the videos from Paul George’s injury during Friday night’s Team USA scrimmage.
Friday night, at the start of the 4th quarter while attempting to block James Harden, Paul George landed on his leg wrong, causing a gruesome scene. So gruesome fellow Team USA players turned away, visibly upset. George suffered a compound fracture of the tibia and fibula and was rushed from the game on a stretcher to spend the next two hours in surgery to get a pin placed in his leg.
“It was difficult to watch the injury that Paul George sustained while representing his country,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver released in a statement, “The thoughts and prayers of all of us at the NBA are with Paul and his family.”
Paul George has gone through surgery and is recovering. Fellow players and athletes have sent out their well wishes, even visiting him in the hospital. Kevin Ware, who suffered a similarly horrific (if not worse) accident last year tweeted his support to George saying, “Minor setback for a major comeback PG.”Â
Â
“Everybody say your prayers for @Paul_George24 and his family. He will come back stronger from this. #USA” Dallas Mavs’ Chandler Parsons tweeted.
Coach K even came to visit.
Check out the players’ reaction during the game.
And if you can stomach it, here’s the injury. If you get squeamish, I suggest you hit pause right away!
