Earlier this week, Paul Mooney canceled his comedy showcase at an Atlanta comedy club. Shortly after, a new report revealed the comedian was taking time off for health-related reasons amid claims that he sexually abused Richard Pryor’s son when he was just a teenager.
Last week, Rashan Kahn, Pryor’s former bodyguard, revealed in an interview that he would be releasing a tell-all book from his experience working with celebrities, specifically the late comedian. During the interview, he made claims that Pryor’s son, Richard Pryor Jr., was sexually assaulted when he was a teen by Paul Mooney.⠀⠀⠀
Mooney and Pryor Sr. were friends well throughout their careers, as Mooney was one of Pryor’s main comedic writers. However, their friendship allegedly became sour, sometime in the 80s and 90s, which Kahn said, was due to Mooney’s alleged misconduct with the then-teen. Earlier this week, TMZ caught up with Pryor Jr. who seemed to confirm the rumors on camera. Now, Mooney is reportedly taking some time off.
In the meantime, Mooney’s legal team issued a statement denying all allegations and said Mooney and Pryor never experienced any hardships within their friendship.
