88 year old Tom Benson, the owner of the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans and NFL’s New Orleans Saints says that his daughter and grand children are trying to kill him.
Benson has been involved in a legal battle over who will inherit his sports franchises when he dies. Since last year, he has been planning to remove his daughter Renee, his granddaughter Rita and grandson Ryan as his successors.
When asked why he wants to remove them Benson said:
“Well, they tried to kill me for one thing,” the billionaire businessman said in the deposition on March 28. “I found out they didn’t love me very much, trying to stab me in the back, wanted to take over everything, brought me to court saying I was crazy. You don’t need any more than that.”
When asked what he meant by ‘they tried to kill me,’ Benson replies, “You know by picking on my wife and when I wasn’t feeling very good they were very hostile.” He goes on to recall a time when his daughter physically attacked his wife at a Saints game in 2014.
Benson wants to cut out his hers and leave his businesses to his wife Gayle, who he married in 2004.
