According to reports, a Pennsylvania father was arrested after his 4-year-old died from a fentanyl overdose.
In May, Avant Redding died while in the care of his father, Van Marcus Redding, 36.
According to sources, Redding was charged with involuntary manslaughter, child endangerment, and a drug charge.
It is unclear the circumstances surrounding the child’s ingestion of the deadly substance.
According to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Redding picked up his son around 1 p.m. on May 7 and took him to a family birthday party before stopping at McDonald’s for dinner.
Redding told police that after eating, the boy vomited and was “unsteady on his feet.”
According to the newspaper, he drove the boy to the hospital but was involved in a car accident on the way, subsequently informing authorities that the child was ill when questioned.
WTAE stated that the boy was dead when he arrived at St. Clair Hospital.
According to the Post-Gazette, police searched Redding’s home and discovered a baggie of white powder and cash, which he claimed he sold from his home.
WTAE revealed that Avant died as a result of fentanyl intoxication.
