An 18-year-old teen is facing multiple charges following the murder of his ex-girlfriend.
According to PEOPLE, Gilbert Newton III asked Morgan McCaffery, 18, to meet him at the Meadowbrook Train Station in Pennsylvania to discuss their relationship on Monday morning.
A release from the Montgomery County District Attorney and the Abington Township Police Chief revealed that authorities responded to a call Monday to the train station at 8:15 a.m., where they found the young woman lying on the ground unresponsive next to her car, which was still running.
Police discovered McCaffery’s body covered in blood from multiple stab wounds to her stomach and neck.
An autopsy disclosed that McCaffery died “of more than 30 stab and slash wounds,” ruling her death a homicide.
After launching an investigation, authorities learned that McCaffery had “broken off a yearlong relationship” with Newton a month before her death.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Newton’s mother called 911 when her son returned home covered in blood with hand injuries.
Around 10 a.m., police arrived at Newton’s home, where they found him sitting on the couch covered in blood.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Newton admitted to repeatedly stabbing his ex in the isolated parking lot.
The killer has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime. He is currently being held in the Montgomery Correction Facility without bail.
Close friends of McCaffery created a GoFundMe page to cover funeral costs.
McCaffery had recently graduated from Nazareth Academy High School and had planned on attending Manor College.
“Anyone who knew Morgan knew how strong, courageous, independent, and loving she was,” the GoFundMe page said. “She would light up any room she walked into and had the most beautiful personality.”
