PETA sure knows how to rain on a parade. Last week, Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant posted an adorable picture of his new best friend, a monkey named Dallas Bryant, which one can assume is his new pet. Most people thought it was a great thing, as evidenced by the 3,000+ comments on Instagram from his followers calling the monkey “cute” and saying they now want their own pet monkey. However, not everyone feels the same way…popular animal rights organization PETA has made it quite clear that they are not a fan of this new man-and-monkey relationship.
“Monkeys belong in the wild — not for football players who acquire exotic animals just to make a splash on Instagram,” Brittany Peet of PETA said. Other animal rights organizations were also outraged, calling Bryant “completely irresponsible” for keeping a baby Capuchin monkey in his home, and adding that he would regret it once the monkey gets older and more aggressive.
PETA has decided to take matters into their own hands. They have called Texas Animal Control to investigate, citing that Bryant is in “possible illegal possession of a monkey”. If they have their way, Dallas Bryant may not be a part of Cowboys Nation for much longer.
