The general public is upset with Don Lemon once again after a recent appearance on CNN with legal analyst/former federal prosecutor Sunny Hostin in which they discussed the incident at Spring Valley High School where a young girl was flung out of her seat by a campus officer.
“There’s no excuse for what he’s doing to her,” Lemon said, “but again, we don’t know — we don’t know — this only shows a small slice of time, and I’d like to know more before passing judgment.”
“Are you guys kidding me?” Hostin asked.
“We’re not,” Lemon replied. “We need to know more.”
“We don’t need to know more!” Hostin said. “The law provides that the standard here is whether the officer used reasonable force — whether it’s necessary.”
“How do you know without all the information?” Lemon asked, because that’s not an impossible standard to meet.
“The bottom line,” Hoskin replied, “is that this is a young girl in school, and there’s no justification for using that kind of force. Whether that force is justifiable is the issue. She is sitting there in a chair and not resisting. That’s excessive force.”
“You don’t know that she’s just sitting there,” Lemon said as the video of her just-sitting-there before the attack rolled to the right of him.
The exchange was pretty heated and many people agree with Hostin, we don’t need to know more. What we see is a girl sitting in her seat, being assaulted by an officer. Those who agree with Hostin’s stance are calling for Lemon to be removed from CNN. Someone has even gone as far as to create a petition on Change.org:
Since the tragic incident of Trayvon Martin, Mr. Don Lemon has consistently antagonized and defamed the characteristics of the African-American race on the national scale in mass communications. From the holding of the ‘N’ word sign before the national audience, to his most recent comments of the unfortunate incident where a student was removed from their chair like a rag-doll by an officer, Mr. Lemon has avoided the obvious to blatantly state that an attack on the African-American race is real and that real solutions need to take place.
We, the people want a journalist and an anchor that will not be afraid to accept the facts that are occurring within the African-American community and who will encourage our people the same way that person will encourage others across the board. We, the people, have no confidence in Mr. Lemon’s ability to do that, therefore we are asking CNN to remove him from his position.
The petition has so far accumulated over 22,000 signatures and counting. People appear to be sick of Lemon’s overall antics when it comes to matters of the African American community. Do you agree with them?
