Pharrell Williams is stepping into the beauty industry after years of being admired for having notably flawless skin.
The 47-year-old rapper, singer, and producer created Humanrace in collaboration with dermatologist Elena Jones, who has taken care of his skin for years. The skincare line will kick off with the Humanrace Rice Powder Cleanser ($36), the Lotus Enzyme Exfoliator ($46), and the Humidifying Cream ($48). Each product will be packaged in eco-friendly grass-green containers, created with 50% post-consumer recycled plastic. According to Complex, each of the containers also features a removable interior chamber that can be reused and exchanged for a refill.
“Humanrace is a universe of products and people dedicated to the pursuit of wellbeing, created and curated by Pharrell Williams,” read the Humanrace website. “We believe that every individual has the potential to understand themselves better and wake up every day, feeling empowered to turn good intentions into actions. Our goal is to help you in this quest.”
The “Happy” performer spoke with Allure about why he chose to develop the line and its ultimate goal.
“Humanrace is a full-on brand. We just want to make things better. We want to democratize the experience of achieving wellness. And I’m not trying to be like any other wellness brand out there. That’s what they do. That’s what they give. Ours is all based on results and solutions and sensations.”
He went on to add, “Sometimes you need to cleanse your spirit. Sometimes you just need to cleanse your mind. Sometimes you’ve just got to get rid of some dead skin. Sometimes you’ve got to get rid of some bad habits. Sometimes you just need to be humidified, brought to life. Sometimes your spirit needs that.”
The line will use quality ingredients safe for all, including fruit alpha hydroxy acids, kaolin clay, rice water, and niacinamide.
“This routine is formulated from Pharrell’s skincare experience and we wanted to choose ingredients that are clean, effective and friendly for all skin types,” Jones revealed in a statement. “We adhered to the European standard of 1,300 banned ingredients as an important starting point and then we went further to develop our own restrictions.”
