The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating one of their detectives for her role in the pro-Trump riot that gripped the Capitol on January 6th.
Sources close to the department confirmed that detective Jennifer Gugger was removed from her position in the Recruit Background Investigations Unit on Saturday. Her removal comes after Internal Affairs were made aware of social media posts indicating that she attended the violent raid that left five dead, including one Capitol police officer. Gugger has been placed on restricted duty pending the results of the investigation.
Police spokesperson, Sgt. Eric Gripp confirmed Gugger’s reassignment.
“At this time, we are aware of social media posts that allege that a PPD detective may have been in attendance at the events on Washington, DC, on January 6th. An IAB investigation has been opened to determine if any PPD policies were violated by the Detective and if they participated in any illegal activities while in attendance. The Detective’s assignment has been changed pending the outcome of the investigation.”
Gugger joined the Philadelphia Police Department as a detective in August 1989.
City Councilmember Katherine Gilmore Richardson took to Twitter to express her concern regarding a law enforcement officer participating in the deadly MAGA raid.
“We need to know if any law enforcement official who is sworn to protect and serve or any city employee attended the riot turned insurrection… I will be following up!”
