A Philadelphia teen who was waiting to be picked up by his bus to take him home from school was shot 18 times.
On Monday, a little before 3:30 p.m., Samir Jefferson was standing at a bus stop when two unidentified shooters fired at least 36 shots. Eighteen of the shots struck Samir; he was in a North Philadelphia neighborhood near a crowded pharmacy at the time. He was confirmed dead after being taken to a hospital, where he died shortly.
So far, no motive has been announced. There have been two persons of interest that have been interviewed. No charges have been filed.
In a statement, Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw shared words on the shooting.
“Earlier today, we lost another young life to senseless gun violence–the fourth since yesterday,” said Outlaw said on Monday, NBC News reports. “My heart grieves for the victims, their families, and this city. While we cannot bring back those lost, the Philadelphia Police Department will ensure that these cases are fully investigated so that these victims and their families receive closure and justice.”
