About 400,000 Planned Parenthood patients compromised their personal information after a ransomware attack.
A hacker jacked several pieces of personal data from Planned Parenthood patients, including their insurance details, what procedures and prescriptions they’ve used as well as their diagnosis, according to the breach notification the organization sent to the people whose info may have been exposed, CNN Business reports. The Los Angeles Chapter of Planned Parenthood was the only chapter affected by the hacker.
In an email to CNN, Planned Parenthood spokesperson John Erickson said police are now involved in the matter.
“Law enforcement was notified of this incident,” said Erickson. “Unfortunately, we do not know the identity of the person responsible, which is not uncommon in these situations. “However, we have no indication this was a targeted attack.”
According to The Washington Post, Erickson did not respond to questions about the details of the demands made or what type of ransomware was used, who first reported on the incident.
