The story of King James’ reign and run in Cleveland will be reimagined in a brand new play written by Pulitzer Prize finalist, Rajiv Joseph.
“King James,” which will premiere at Steppenwolf Theater Company in Chicago for its 2019-20 season, will tell the tale of LeBron James’ triumphant return to his home state, and the impact the King has had on the Rock and Roll Capital of the World after the Cavaliers’ 2016 championship.
Although additional details remain unclear, the Center Theater Group in Los Angeles, which will host the play at one of its operating theaters in its 2020-2021 season, provided a description about the forthcoming project.
“‘King’ LeBron James’ reign in Cleveland brings promise, prosperity, and renewal to a city in desperate need of all three. As the city celebrates a championship, two estranged friends spar in a verbal game of 1 on 1, revealing past secrets, present truths, and a possible further after ‘The King’ has left the building.”
The play will run from May 7 to June 2020 at the Steppenwolf Theater Company in Chicago.
