Las Vegas police caught a home invasion suspect after the teen left behind homework in a getaway car.
On March 25, Kamari Oliver allegedly skipped school and performed a home invasion that ended in the murder of 25-year-old Natalie Manduley. The New York Post reports Oliver and his accomplices allegedly broke into Manduley’s home and demanded money before fatally shooting her.
The news outlet reports the suspects ended up crashing into a wall outside the victim’s home and then took off running on foot. But what Oliver left behind was a backpack with his homework inside that had his name on it.
“Inside the backpack was a school Chrome Book along with a notebook of schoolwork, specifically math work,” the police report said, The New York Post reports. “In the top right corner of the schoolwork, the name ‘Kamari Oliver’ and ‘5th Period’ were written.” Police also found $5,000 in the getaway car.
Police got more evidence that Oliver may have been a part of the robbery after discovering that he’d missed two school periods on the same days as the home invasion. Oliver has now been charged with murder, robbery, burglary and kidnapping.
The teen’s attorney says evidence will show his client wasn’t involved in the murder. “I think the evidence is going to show he never went inside of that house,” Winder said, per The New York Post. “He’s an 18-year-old with no prior criminal history as an adult or juvenile. We believe the facts are going to show he was not involved in any murder.”
