Police Release 911 Audio from Night of Young Scooter’s Death, Authorities Say Caller’s Story Isn’t Adding Up [Video]

New details have emerged in the tragic death of Atlanta rapper Young Scooter, who died last Friday on his 39th birthday after injuring himself while fleeing police. The new information centers around the 911 call that initially brought officers to the scene.

Atlanta police have released the audio from the call that sent them to a home on William Nye Drive. In the recording, an unidentified woman claimed to be part of the “neighborhood watch” and made a series of disturbing allegations. She told dispatchers she witnessed a naked woman being dragged outside the home, bleeding from the head, and said the altercation stemmed from a drug dispute. She also alleged that the woman had called additional men to “shoot up the place.”

The caller went even further, telling 911 she believed the house was being used for either drug trafficking or prostitution and warned officers that a child may be in danger.

But when officers arrived, none of those claims could be verified.

According to police, when they knocked on the front door, a man opened it briefly, then slammed it shut. Officers quickly set up a perimeter. As they surrounded the home, two men fled from the back—one of them later identified as Young Scooter, real name Kenneth Bailey.

Authorities say Scooter attempted to hop multiple fences while fleeing, and in doing so, suffered a catastrophic injury to his leg. He reportedly tore his femoral artery, a major blood vessel, and collapsed not far from the home. Officers rendered aid before transporting him to Grady Marcus Trauma Center, but he was pronounced dead later that night.

Police have since confirmed that no shots were fired, no hostage was located, and no bleeding woman or endangered child was found at the property.

Now, the focus has turned to the 911 caller, who may have provided false information that led to the chain of events ending in Young Scooter’s death. Investigators say the call was placed using a 911-only phone, a device without a carrier that makes it more difficult to trace. Police are offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to identifying the caller.

Authorities are urging anyone with details about the call or the events that unfolded to come forward.
