Pop Smoke was murdered by a 15-year-old shooter, who, along with a group of teens, ambushed the Brooklyn rapper in Los Angeles in a robbery attempt gone wrong.
According to The New York Daily News, a detective testified that the group of teens targeted the rapper and were determined to steal his diamond-studded Rolex.
The robbers invaded the 20-year-old rapper’s Airbnb rental in the Hollywood Hills looking for jewelry that included his expensive Cuban link chain but only managed to grab the luxury timepiece, which they later resold for a measly $2,000.
The teenage gunman, who is the youngest of the four defendants now facing murder and robbery charges in the case, allegedly admitted to his role in the rapper’s murder during a recorded interview with a cellmate inside a juvenile detention center last May.
LAPD Det. Carlos Camacho testified about the details on Friday during a preliminary hearing for a different suspect in the case. That suspect is 20-year-old Corey Walker, who is the sole adult defendant in the high-profile prosecution.
“He admitted that he shot the victim three times with a Baretta 9 (mm.),” Det. Camacho revealed.
The 15-year-old alleged gunmen also “admitted that they asked for the jewelry” and then had “a confrontation” with Pop Smoke during the 4 a.m. home invasion that took place on Feb. 19, 2020, the detective explained.
“They got into a fight, and he shot him three times,” Camacho stated, using the youngest defendant’s recorded jail interview as his source. “He said he shot him on the back.”
